10 Artists You Can't Miss at Hangout Music Festival

The Hangout Festival is the first and only music festival of it's kind in North America. Located directly on the white sand beaches of Gulf Shores, AL, the festival features an eclectic lineup of huge names including Foo Fighters, Beck, Sam Smith, My Morning Jacket and more. Music runs daily from 11am-11pm on 5+ stages during the three day weekend. We've looked deeply into the lineup to choose our favorites, the ten acts you absolutely can not miss at the festival, some you may not have heard yet! See you all on the beach, and if you don't already have your tickets, you can get them here. Happy Hangout!

The Districts
The Districts are an indie rock band from Philadelphia, PA, founded in 2009. Since forming, they have released a self titled EP, and a full length album A Flourish And A Spoil, both to critical acclaim. Make sure to check out "Long Distance," "Bold," and "Rocking Chair."

Strand of Oaks
I wouldn't even be lying by saying Strand of Oaks are one of my personal favorites at the moment. Strand of Oaks is the rock project by songwriter and producer Timothy Showalter. Originally from Goshen, Indiana, he currently lives in Philadelphia. Showalter has been musically active since 2003. You can also catch him at Bonnaroo.

Zella Day
Zella Day is an indie pop musician from Pinetop, Arizona. Zella was nestled into a log cabin with an acoustic guitar in a town surrounded by the Sitgreaves National Forest and Apache reservation. Immersed in music at a young age, her family owning the only coffee house in town with life music, Z was apart of a very small artist community that supported her natural desire to write music. Now residing in Los Angeles, Zella Day incorporates her simplistic roots and blends them with the eclectic sounds of the West Coast.

Rubblebucket are an indie-dance band from Brooklyn, NY. Since forming in 2007, they have released 4 albums and 3 EP's. Survival Sounds, the newest by them was released in late 2014.

Father John Misty
Joshua Tillman, also known as Father John Misty  is an American folk singer-songwriter, guitarist, and drummer. Tillman is a former member of indie rock bands Saxon Shore and Fleet Foxes and has toured extensively with Pacific Northwest artists Damien Jurado, Jesse Sykes, and David Bazan. His new album, I Love You, Honeybear, released just about a month ago, you can read our review of that here.

Odesza are an up and coming electronic duo from Seattle. They formed in 2012 and have been gaining fans by the venue full ever since. You can catch them at almost every festival this summer, and I promise you it will be a great time each time you see them.

Future Islands
Future Islands are a synthpop band based in Baltimore, Maryland, signed with 4AD. Futue Islands are composed of Gerrit Welmers (keyboards and programming), William Cashion (bass, acoustic and electric guitars), and Samuel T. Herring (lyrics and vocals). The band formed in January 2006 in Greenville, North Carolina. These guys always deliver extremely emotional and intense live performances, and they should definitely not be missed. I can almost guarantee they will be one of the highlights of the festival.

Jenny Lewis
Jenny Lewis is one of the leading women of indie rock. She was the primary vocalist of the indie rock band Rilo Kiley, and has released three solo albums. She also performs as part of the duo Jenny & Johnny with boyfriend Johnathan Rice.

Chances are, you know who Beck is, despite the fact that "Who Is Beck" was trending on Twitter after he took home Album of the Year at the Grammys. I'm not even going to say too much because his music speaks for itself.

My Morning Jacket
My Morning Jacket are a rock band from Louisville, Kentucky. In my personal opinion, they are one of the greatest live bands around. They have recently announced a new album, The Waterfall, which will arrive in May, and have also released the first track from that album yesterday. Don't miss these guys, like I said, one of the greatest live bands out there right now.
